Mango is a three-year-old golden retriever that was given to the owner from a breeder. She has had him for less than a month. In that short time he’s become one of the sweetest, calmest, and most loving companions she ever known. They bonded instantly — he is already a central part of the life.

On January 16 at about 9:00 PM, They went on their usual evening walk. After he stopped to go to the bathroom, he suddenly began screaming in pain and thrashing uncontrollably. His back right leg ended up positioned behind his left back leg and he could not bear any weight on it.
He was rushed to a 24-hour emergency clinic but were turned away and referred to another hospital about 45 minutes away. There we paid nearly $900 out of pocket for diagnostics and were told Mango has a dislocated hip. The veterinarian confirmed that the only viable long-term solution at this point is femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery. Because too much time has passed since the injury, simply putting the hip back in place would no longer be effective. The facility offered a temporary relocation procedure for an additional estimated $1,500, but that would not fix the underlying injury and was unaffordable for her after the emergency costs.
Mango needed an FHO surgery. We were able to get him into Slaton Vet and with what the owners raised on “go fund me” and Furry Funding’s contribution, Mango is now on the road to recovery. He will be getting his stitches out on 2/3/26 and the owner stated that he is feeling like his old self again.
