When Cailie’s dad reached out to us, we thought she just needed dental work done. She was drooling and her mouth was swollen. What we learned was that she had a tumor in her mouth and it was cancer. This was devastating news for Cailie’s dad. The vet sent them home with medications that helped for a while. The medications gave Cailie several more months, but unfortunately the cancer finally got too bad and her dad had to make the difficult decision to let her cross rainbow bridge. Furry Funding provided financial and emotional support throughout.
We received this from Cailie’s dad this morning.
“Today, Friday, June 20 is the day after. I finally went through with it yesterday – we were there all afternoon. I was exhausted from caring for her, and being up all night just looking at her peacefully hugging my arm, and petting her gently. The vet is a cat lover too and had gone through SCC with his as well, so he really understood. The worst thing, in addition to watching her die in my arms, is she was mentally and emotionally fine… which kept holding us back from doing this. She was completely there, no question, feeling fine and happy with the help of the medicines we’d been giving. In a matter of days there wouldn’t have been that either – her body was being defeated by the cancer. I have to keep remembering that to justify this. Meanwhile, the walks and talks and cuddles we’ve been having play most prominently, and as with most things we cherish about life, I ask myself why couldn’t those be more permanent? They just aren’t, and just as the memories of all my other little friends have faded, so will my memory of her. A positive for us is, I finally wrote a post where no one was negative, way over a hundred responses too, and I credit you all for that. You came through in tender, loving fashion, just like Cailie. Thank you again.”
I’m crying as I post this….
