During the heavy rains at the end of December Cathy and Bob were taking groceries to her mother who is on hospice. A beautiful large black dog with a pink collar was running on Triunfo Cyn Rd in Westlake Village. A car was following her, but they had their dog in the car and were unable to stop. They gave us their dogs leash since we didn’t have any of our Dog Days Supplies with us. The dog crossed Triunfo almost getting hit and went up a hill toward Three Springs. She tried to go through a wrought Iron fence and was stuck at her hips. We thought we were going to have to call the fire Dept to get her out. After a few minutes she was able to push through as she yelped in pain. Once in the backyard, Cathy went around the street and were able to put a leash on her. She seemed relieved and was happy to get in our car. We took her to our house, dried her off and gave her a soft place to lay down. She was very tired. We scanned her and she had a microchip, but it was not registered. She was so sweet and kept trying to pull our hands toward her to pet her. It was so hard to take her to the Agoura shelter. We felt sure she had to have a family, but no one ever came for her.
Unfortunately, no owners ever came for Dora. She became stressed and was showing signs of dog reactivity. So the shelter deemed her “Rescue Only” .
We knew we had to get her out and to safety…When I say it takes a village, this rescue really did.
On February
4th, DORA has left the building!

She earned her freedom walk out of the LA County Agoura Animal Care Center/Shelter thanks to a team effort!
First a big thank you to Hank’s Legacy Foundation for pulling her out (since we did not have pull rights there). Second, and most important, a huge thank you to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (S.P.A.R.C.) for taking Dora into their rescue care. T
hey have made room for her there and she will forever be safe!
Dog Days Search and Rescue Jennifer, and Cathy transported Dora to her new adventure at SPARC, making sure she arrived safely. Dora was met by the SPARC team who are looking forward to working with her.
Money was raised by Dog Days Search and Rescue, and Furry Funding for Dora to receive training. Charlie from Charlies Dog Training took on the task and has provided months of training at a discounted price for our sweet girl Dora. He worked on her basic skills and her dog reactivity.
We are overjoyed to report that on June 26th Dora was adopted by an amazing family. She has a mom and dad and a little girl and boy to play with. Dora, we love you and can’t wait to hear about your next adventures!
Special thanks to Jennifer and Dog Days Search and Rescue, Lupe Flores, and Santa Paula Animal Center for advocating so hard and working hard to make this plan come together, Shelby of Hanks Legacy for pulling her, Charlie of Charlies Dog Training, and Cathy for continuing to make sure Dora received the care and training needed.
